Walker for stairs for people with limited mobility

In the US alone, there are more than

1 million injuries on stairs

each year according to a study in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine. The Census Bureau explains that about fifty percent of the US American homes contain stairs.

The average costs of the non-fatal stair injuries

add up to

$ 92 billion per year.

AssiStep was developed to make sure that people with reduced mobility and who already use other types of mobility aids can be more independent and safe – while still being able to live in their own home and without needing outside help. After all, the majority of people want to do as much as they can themselves without needing help from their families, friends or care takers.

Walker for stairs AssiStep Design

The AssiStep comes with a patented locking mechanism and consists of a handrail which is mounted along the wall as well as a handle which then is located in front of the user.

The user moves the handle along the railing for the needed support and safety. The stair walker can be used with different grips both on the handle or with one hand on the handle and one hand on the railing.

In accordance to the users’ personal preference, the user can adjust the positioning of the hands.

Possible ergonomic grips:

  • one hand
  • combination of handrail and handle
  • use the vertical part of the handle
